Terms of use
Helderberg Social is a volunteer-run community site and app for the Helderberg. These terms say what you can expect from us and what we ask of you. They are written to be read. Using the site, the app or our WhatsApp number means you accept them. How we handle your personal information is in the privacy notice.
What Helderberg Social is
A free guide to events, places and community groups in the Helderberg, with an app for South African mobile numbers, email and WhatsApp updates, and a way to ask to join the community’s WhatsApp groups. It is run by volunteers, not a business, and there is nothing to pay. We may change, pause or stop any part of it.
Your account
An account is for one person, with a South African mobile number that is yours. Keep your password to yourself; what is done with your account is your responsibility. You can delete your account at any time: how to delete your account. We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms.
What you post
Events, listings, private events, get-togethers, posters and notes you send us must be true as far as you know, and yours to share. When you post something for the public site, you let us publish it, edit it for length and clarity, and show it on the site, in the app and in our updates, for as long as it is listed. It stays yours.
Public events and listings are checked before they go up, and we may decline or remove anything without giving a reason. Private events and get-togethers are not checked before they go up; the person who starts one is responsible for it. Anyone can report one to us.
Not allowed: anything unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit or misleading; scams, spam and pyramid schemes; other people’s personal details without their agreement; and anything that tries to break, overload or get around the site’s or the app’s protections.
Messages from the Helderberg Social number are sent through Meta’s WhatsApp Business Platform, so WhatsApp’s terms apply to them too. We send updates only after you confirm, and you can reply STOP or tap Unsubscribe at any time. In the community’s WhatsApp groups, each group’s rules apply, and a person who breaks them or posts scams or spam may be removed.
Events are run by their organisers
We list events; we do not run them. The organiser is responsible for the event, its tickets, its safety and any change or cancellation. Check the details with the organiser before you go. Times, prices and places can change after we list them.
What we cannot promise
We work to keep the information right and the service running, but it is offered as it is, without any guarantee that it is complete, current or always available. As far as the law allows, Helderberg Social and its volunteers are not liable for any loss that comes from using the site, the app, our updates or an event or place listed on them. Nothing here takes away rights you have under South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act where it applies.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms; the date below says when they last changed, and a change that matters will be announced on the site. South African law applies. Questions, or something you want removed: contact us at the form on the site.
