Create an account

An account lets you post events to Helderberg Social and see whether they were published, and is how you get vetted to join the community's WhatsApp groups. Every event is still checked by a person before it appears.

We send a confirmation link here, and later tell you when an event is published.

Mobile number

South African mobile only. The Helderberg Social app signs in with this number and this password, so one account works in both places.

Your home address: proof of residence

We ask for your home address as proof that you live in the Helderberg. The community's WhatsApp groups are for people who live here, so a community admin checks it before letting you in. It is never shown on the site or in the groups.

Your personal information (POPIA)

What we keep: your first name(s), surname, age, email address, mobile number and home address, and when you agreed to this. Your age is seen only by the super admin who runs Helderberg Social, never by a community admin, and nothing is restricted by it.
Why: to run your account, and to check that you live in the Helderberg before you join the community's WhatsApp groups. Nothing else. We never sell or share it.
Who sees it: you get a five-digit member number and give it to a community admin. The community admin who vets you sees your details once only. After that one look no community admin can open them again, and only the super admin who runs Helderberg Social can see them. Your address is stored encrypted.
How long: for as long as you keep your account. If you are not accepted, your surname and address are deleted 30 days after the decision.
Your rights: you can see and correct what we hold, and delete your account yourself at any time, which deletes these details with it: how to delete your account. You can also complain to the Information Regulator; the privacy notice says how.

I agree that Helderberg Social keeps these details for these reasons, and that a community admin sees them once to vet me.
